Measuring socio-economic benefits of lobster fisheries to local communities in Canada: A collaborative survey

You are being invited to participate in this survey to help the lobster industry measure and monitor the economic benefits from your fishing enterprise to your community and the region. This data is being collected by the industry, for the industry. The Canadian Lobster Research Network (CLRN) is supporting the delivery of the survey on behalf of fishing associations throughout the region with advice from Dr. Paul Foley (Associate Professor, Memorial University of Newfoundland) and Dr. Melanie Wiber (Professor Emeritus, University of New Brunswick).

Important information about the survey:

  • This survey is for owner operators who participated in the lobster fishery in Canada at some time in the last 5 years.

  • Your participation is kept strictly confidential and anonymous. No personal identification information will be collected or linked to your responses.

  • Financial information is being collected in this survey. For example, annual cost of bait and fuel, number of crew and wages, and percentage of income derived from lobster sales. Catch and earnings data are not requested.

  • The data from this survey will be owned by your fishing association and shared with CLRN for research purposes only. However, your fishing association remains in full control over the use of survey data collected from its members.

It will take approximately 15 - 30 minutes to complete the survey.
